Q: Which Level of Automation is the Automotive Industry currently at?

Purple octopus in a luxury car, tentacles on the steering wheel. Underwater setting with sea plants and vibrant blue tones.
No, we don't advocate for Octopus's to drive cars. Sheesh!

  • Level 0: No automation; the driver performs all driving tasks.

  • Level 1: Driver assistance; the vehicle can assist with certain functions, but the driver remains in control.

  • Level 2: Partial automation; the vehicle can take control of steering and acceleration, but the driver must be prepared to intervene if necessary.

  • Level 3: Conditional automation; the vehicle can drive itself in certain conditions, but the driver must be ready to take over when needed.

  • Level 4: High automation; the vehicle can drive itself in most conditions, but the driver may still need to take over in certain circumstances.

  • Level 5: Full automation; the vehicle can drive itself in all conditions, without any human intervention.

A: We are currently between levels 2 and 3, almost into 4.
